Upma is a popular South Indian breakfast dish made from semolina (rava) English Simpal Recipes and various vegetables and spices. It is light, nutritious, and easy to prepare. Here's a simple Upma recipe for you to try.
Simple Upma Recipe
Ingredients:

Semolina (rava) – 1 cup

Oil – 2 tablespoons

Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon

Urad dal (split black gram) – 1 teaspoon

Chana dal (split chickpeas) – 1 teaspoon
-
Green chilies (chopped) – 1-2
-
Ginger (chopped) – 1 teaspoon
-
Onion (chopped) – 1 large
-
Carrot (grated) – 1/2 cup
-
Potato (chopped) – 1/2 cup
-
Water – 2 cups
-
Salt – to taste
-
Fresh coriander (for garnish) – 1 teaspoon
Instructions:

Roast the Semolina:
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan. Add the semolina (rava) and dry roast it on low heat until it turns light golden brown. Once roasted, set it aside on a plate. -
Tempering (Tadka):
In the same pan, add the remaining oil. Once the oil heats up, add mustard seeds, urad dal, and chana dal. Let them splutter and turn golden brown. -
Add Vegetables:
Add the chopped Hindi Simpal Recipes onion, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for a couple of minutes until the onions turn translucent. Then, add the grated carrot and chopped potato. Cook the vegetables for about 5-6 minutes, or until they soften slightly. -
Add Water and Salt:
Pour 2 cups of water into the pan and add salt to taste. Bring the water to a boil. -
Cook the Upma:
Once the water starts boiling, slowly add the roasted semolina (rava) to the pan while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Keep stirring until the semolina absorbs the water and thickens. -
Simmer and Serve:
Reduce the heat to low Marathi Simpale Recipes and cover the pan. Let the upma cook for 2-3 minutes, allowing the semolina to fully cook and absorb the flavors. -
Garnish and Serve:
Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
Serving Tip:
You can serve upma with coconut chutney, sambar, or just enjoy it on its own for a light breakfast or snack.
