English Simpal Recipes

Upma is a popular South Indian breakfast dish made from semolina (rava) English Simpal Recipes and various vegetables and spices. It is light, nutritious, and easy to prepare. Here's a simple Upma recipe for you to try.

Simple Upma Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Semolina (rava) – 1 cup

  • Oil – 2 tablespoons

  • Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon

  • Urad dal (split black gram) – 1 teaspoon

  • Chana dal (split chickpeas) – 1 teaspoon

  • Green chilies (chopped) – 1-2

  • Ginger (chopped) – 1 teaspoon

  • Onion (chopped) – 1 large

  • Carrot (grated) – 1/2 cup

  • Potato (chopped) – 1/2 cup

  • Water – 2 cups

  • Salt – to taste

  • Fresh coriander (for garnish) – 1 teaspoon

Instructions:

  1. Roast the Semolina:
    Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan. Add the semolina (rava) and dry roast it on low heat until it turns light golden brown. Once roasted, set it aside on a plate.

  2. Tempering (Tadka):
    In the same pan, add the remaining oil. Once the oil heats up, add mustard seeds, urad dal, and chana dal. Let them splutter and turn golden brown.

  3. Add Vegetables:
    Add the chopped 
    Hindi Simpal Recipes onion, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté for a couple of minutes until the onions turn translucent. Then, add the grated carrot and chopped potato. Cook the vegetables for about 5-6 minutes, or until they soften slightly.

  4. Add Water and Salt:
    Pour 2 cups of water into the pan and add salt to taste. Bring the water to a boil.

  5. Cook the Upma:
    Once the water starts boiling, slowly add the roasted semolina (rava) to the pan while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Keep stirring until the semolina absorbs the water and thickens.

  6. Simmer and Serve:
    Reduce the heat to low

  7. Garnish and Serve:
    Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.

Serving Tip:
You can serve upma with coconut chutney, sambar, or just enjoy it on its own for a light breakfast or snack.
