Vada Pav is a popular Indian street food, especially loved in Maharashtra. It's English Simpal Recipes simple to make and delicious. Here's a basic recipe for Vada Pav:
Ingredients:
For the Vada (Potato filling):
- Boiled Potatoes – 4-5 (medium-sized)
- Oil – 1 tablespoon (for frying)
- Cumin Seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
- Hing (Asafoetida) – 1/4 teaspoon
- Ginger Paste – 1 tablespoon
- Garlic Paste – 1 teaspoon (optional)
- Turmeric Powder – 1/4 teaspoon
- Red Chili Powder – 1 teaspoon
- Coriander Powder – 1/2 teaspoon
- Garam Masala – 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt – to taste
- Chopped Coriander Leaves – 2 tablespoons
For the Batter (for frying the vada):
- Chickpea Flour (Besan) – 1 cup
- Rice Flour – 1 tablespoon (optional, for extra crispiness)
- Salt – to taste
- Red Chili Powder – 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking Soda – a pinch (optional, for puffiness)
- Water – as needed to make a smooth batter
- Oil – for deep frying
For Assembling:
- Pav (Bread rolls) – 4-6
- Green Chutney – as required
- Sweet Tamarind Chutney – as required (optional)
Method:
Step 1: Prepare the Potato Filling
- Boil the potatoes until soft, peel them, and mash them well.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add hing (asafoetida), ginger paste, and garlic paste (if using), and sauté for a minute.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Stir for a couple of minutes until the spices are well combined.
- Add the mashed Hindi Simpal Recipes potatoes, salt, and chopped coriander leaves. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Let the mixture cool for a while, then shape it into round balls (size of a golf ball).
Step 2: Prepare the Batter
- In a bowl, add chickpea flour (besan), rice flour, salt, red chili powder, and baking soda (if using).
- Gradually add water and whisk to make a smooth, thick batter that can coat the potato balls.
Step 3: Fry the Vada
- Heat enough oil in a pan for deep frying.
- Dip each potato ball into the prepared batter, making sure it is fully coated.
- Carefully drop the coated potato balls into the hot oil and fry until golden and crispy on all sides. Remove them from the oil and drain on paper towels.
Step 4: Assemble the Vada Pav
- Slice the pav (bread rolls) horizontally, leaving one side intact.
- Spread green chutney and sweet tamarind chutney on the inner side of the pav.
- Place a hot vada (fried potato ball) inside the pav and gently press it together.
Serving:
