Vietnamese Braised Pork Belly English Simpal Recipes

 English Simpal Recipes

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs pork belly, cut into 1.5-inch cubes
  • 4 boiled eggs, peeled (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 shallot, minced
  • 1-2 cups fresh coconut water (or chicken broth)
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1 tablespoon caramel sauce (nước màu) or 1 tablespoon additional sugar for caramelization
  • 2-3 stalks of green onions, chopped
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Pork Belly:

    • In a large bowl, combine the English Simpal Recipes pork belly with fish sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, black pepper, garlic, and shallot. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, preferably overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. Prepare the Caramel Sauce:

    • In a small saucepan, heat 1 tablespoon of sugar over medium heat until it melts and turns amber. Be careful not to burn it. Once the sugar is caramelized, quickly add a few tablespoons of water and stir until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Cook the Pork Belly:

    • Heat the cooking oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add the marinated pork belly and cook until it’s browned on all sides.
    • Add the caramel sauce (or nước màu) to the pot and stir to coat the pork evenly.
    • Pour in the coconut water (or chicken broth) until the pork is just covered. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 1 to 1.5 hours, until the pork is tender. If using, add the boiled eggs to the pot during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
    • Skim off any excess fat that rises to the surface during cooking.
  4. Finish and Serve:

    • Once the pork is tender and the sauce has thickened, adjust the seasoning with additional English Simpal Recipes fish sauce or soy sauce if needed.
    • Garnish with chopped green onions and fresh cilantro.

Tips:

  • Serve the braised pork belly with steamed white rice and a side of pickled vegetables for a complete meal.
  • For a more authentic flavor, use nước màu, a Vietnamese caramel sauce, which can be found in Asian grocery stores.

Enjoy your delicious Vietnamese Braised Pork Belly!
