Cottage Pie is a classic English dish that's hearty, comforting, and simple to make. Here's a basic recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 carrots, diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • Optional: grated cheese for topping

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).

  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned.

  5. Sprinkle the flour over the beef and vegetable mixture, and stir well to combine. Cook for another 2 minutes.

  6. Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and beef broth. Bring to a simmer and cook for about 10 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened slightly. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  11. Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the filling is bubbling.
