pohyachi chakli

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups flattened rice (poha)
  • 1/2 cup rice flour
  • 1/2 cup besan (gram flour)
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions:

  • Rinse the flattened rice (poha) thoroughly and drain the water. Allow it to dry for about 10 minutes.
  • In a mixing bowl, add the flattened rice, rice flour, besan, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, and salt. Mix well.
  • Gradually add water and knead the mixture into a soft dough.
  • Take a portion of the dough and shape it into a cylindrical roll.
  • Heat oil in a deep pan or kadai for frying.
  • Using a chakli maker or a murukku press, make spiral-shaped chaklis directly into the hot oil.
  • Fry the chaklis on medium heat until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  • Remove the fried chaklis from the oil and drain them on a kitchen towel to remove excess oil.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining dough.
  • Allow the chaklis to cool completely before storing them in an airtight container.
