Kelyache Shikran

Kelyache Shikran is a popular Maharashtrian dessert made with ripe bananas, milk, sugar, and flavored with cardamom. It is a simple and delicious recipe. Here's the recipe for Kelyache Shikran:

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2-3 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom powder
  • A pinch of saffron strands (optional)
  • Chopped nuts for garnishing (e.g., almonds, cashews)

Instructions:

  • Peel the bananas and cut them into small pieces. Mash them well using a fork or a blender until you achieve a smooth consistency. Keep aside.
  • In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat. Let it come to a gentle boil.
  • Add the mashed bananas to the milk and mix well. Stir continuously to avoid lumps.
  • Add sugar to the mixture and continue to stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Simmer the mixture for 4-5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  • Add cardamom powder and saffron strands (if using) to the mixture and mix well.
  • Cook for another 2-3 minutes until the shikran thickens slightly. Keep in mind that it will thicken further upon cooling.
  • Remove from heat and let it cool to room temperature. You can also chill it in the refrigerator for a few hours if you prefer it cold.
  • Garnish with chopped nuts of your choice, such as almonds or cashews.
  • Serve Kelyache Shikran as a dessert or a sweet accompaniment to a meal.

Enjoy the creamy and flavorful Kelyache Shikran!
