Sevai Upma Recipe


Sure! Sevai Upma is a delicious South Indian dish made from rice vermicelli (sevai). It is a quick and easy recipe that can be enjoyed as a breakfast or snack. Here's a simple recipe for Sevai Upma:

Ingredients:

- 2 cups rice vermicelli (sevai)

- 2 tablespoons oil

- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds

- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds

- 1/2 teaspoon urad dal (split black gram)

- 1/2 teaspoon chana dal (split Bengal gram)

- 1 tablespoon finely chopped ginger

- 1 green chili, finely chopped (adjust to taste)

- A few curry leaves

- 1 medium-sized onion, finely chopped

- 1 small carrot, finely chopped

- 1/4 cup green peas (fresh or frozen)

- Salt to taste

- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

- Juice of 1/2 lemon

- Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)

- Grated coconut (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Cook the rice vermicelli (sevai) according to the instructions on the package. Drain and keep it aside.

2. Heat oil in a pan or kadai over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Then, add cumin seeds, urad dal, and chana dal. Sauté until the dals turn golden brown.

3. Add chopped ginger, green chili, and curry leaves to the pan. Sauté for a minute or until the ginger becomes fragrant.

4. Add chopped onion and sauté until it becomes translucent.

5. Add finely chopped carrot and green peas. Cook for a few minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender.

6. Now, add salt and turmeric powder. Mix well.

7. Add the cooked rice vermicelli (sevai) to the pan. Gently mix everything together, ensuring that the sevai is well coated with the spices and vegetables. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.

8. Squeeze the lemon juice over the upma and mix well.

9. Remove from heat and garnish with fresh coriander leaves and grated coconut (if desired).

Your Sevai Upma is ready to be served! It can be enjoyed on its own or with coconut chutney or tomato chutney.
