Plain Pulao

Sure, here's a simple recipe for making Plain Pulao:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup basmati rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon ghee or oil
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2-3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 inch piece of ginger, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2-3 cardamom pods
  • 2-3 cloves
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the rice well in cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in cold water for 30 minutes, then drain and set aside.

  2. Heat the ghee or oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and sauté until it turns golden brown.

  3. Add the minced garlic and ginger and sauté for another minute.

  4. Add the whole spices (bay leaf, cardamom pods, and cloves) and sauté for a minute or until fragrant.

  5. Add the drained rice to the pot and sauté for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice is lightly toasted.

  6. Add 2 cups of water and salt to taste. Stir well and bring the mixture to a boil.

  7. Once the water comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, and let the rice cook for about 15-20 minutes, or until the water is completely absorbed and the rice is tender.

  8. Once the rice is cooked, turn off the heat and let it sit covered for 5-10 minutes to allow the steam to settle.

  9. Fluff the rice with a fork and serve hot with your favorite curry or side dish.

Enjoy your delicious homemade Plain Pulao!
