Egg Roll

Egg rolls are a delicious and popular dish made with a crispy outer wrapper and a filling typically consisting of vegetables, meat, and sometimes eggs. Here's a basic recipe for making egg rolls:

Ingredients:
  • Egg roll wrappers (available at Asian grocery stores)
  • 1 cup cooked and shredded chicken, pork, or shrimp (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooking oil for frying
  • Water (for sealing the wrappers)

Instructions:
  • Heat some oil in a pan or wok over medium heat. Add the garlic and onions, and sauté until they become fragrant and lightly golden.
  • Add the shredded cabbage, carrots, and mushrooms (if using), and cook for a few minutes until the vegetables start to soften.
  • If using meat or shrimp, add it to the pan and cook until it is fully cooked through.
  • Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together and cook for another minute. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
  • Take an egg roll wrapper and place it on a clean surface. Spoon a portion of the filling onto the wrapper, placing it closer to one corner.
  • Fold the corner with the filling over, tucking it in tightly. Roll once, then fold in the sides of the wrapper and continue rolling until you reach the opposite corner. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with a little water to seal it.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining wrappers and filling.
  • Heat oil in a deep pan or skillet for frying. Make sure the oil is hot but not smoking.
  • Carefully place the egg rolls into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until they turn golden brown and crispy. This should take about 3-5 minutes.
  • Once cooked, remove the egg rolls from the oil and drain them on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
  • Serve the egg rolls hot with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet and sour sauce, chili sauce, or soy sauce with chopped chilies.
Enjoy your homemade egg rolls as an appetizer or a main course!
