Chinese Paratha, also known as Chinese Roti, is a fusion dish that combines elements of Chinese cuisine with the Indian flatbread called Paratha. Here's a recipe for Chinese Paratha:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Water, as needed
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 cup finely chopped vegetables (such as cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, etc.)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated ginger
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon white pepper powder
- Salt, to taste
- 2 green onions, finely chopped
- Vegetable oil, for cooking
Instructions:
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add water and knead to form a soft dough. Cover the dough and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
2. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, and sauté for a minute until fragrant.
3. Add the chopped vegetables to the pan and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they start to soften. You can use a combination of vegetables according to your preference.
4. In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, white pepper powder, and salt. Pour this sauce mixture over the vegetables and stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are cooked but still slightly crisp. Add the chopped green onions and mix well. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.
5. Divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls. Take one ball and roll it out into a small disc using a rolling pin. Brush the surface with a little vegetable oil.
6. Place a spoonful of the vegetable filling in the center of the disc. Bring the edges of the dough together and pinch to seal the filling inside.
7. Gently flatten the stuffed dough ball and roll it out into a larger disc, approximately 6-7 inches in diameter. Be careful not to let the filling come out.
8. Heat a non-stick pan or griddle over medium heat. Place the rolled paratha on the hot pan and cook for about a minute on each side until golden brown, brushing the surface with oil as needed. Press gently with a spatula to ensure even cooking.
9. Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls and filling until all the parathas are cooked.
10. Serve the Chinese Parathas hot with your favorite dipping sauce or a side of chili garlic sauce.
Enjoy your delicious Chinese Parathas!
