Ingredients:

  • 6-7 medium-sized apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup English Simpal Recipes granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 package of ready-made pie crust (or make your own if you prefer)

Instructions:

  2. Mix the Filling: In a separate bowl, combine the granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix well.

  3. Combine and Fill: Add the sugar mixture to the apples and toss until the apples are evenly coated.

  4. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

  6. Fill the Pie: Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust-lined dish, spreading it evenly. Dot the top of the apples with the butter pieces.

  8. Bake: Place the pie on a baking sheet (to catch any drips) and bake in the preheated oven for 45-55 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

  9. Cool and Serve: Allow the pie to cool on a wire rack for at least 1-2 hours before serving. This allows the filling to set.

  10. Serve: Serve slices of pie warm or at room temperature, optionally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
