Instructions:
Prepare the Yakitori Sauce:
- In a small saucepan, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, water, sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Bring to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce slightly thickens. Remove from heat and set aside.
Prepare the Chicken:
- Thread the chicken pieces onto the soaked bamboo skewers, leaving a little space between each piece.
Grill the Chicken:
- Preheat your grill or broiler to medium-high heat. If using a grill, lightly oil the grates.
- Place the skewers on the grill and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until the chicken is fully cooked and nicely charred on the edges. Baste the skewers with the Yakitori sauce frequently during grilling, using a brush.
Serve:
- Once the chicken is cooked through, remove from the grill and place on a serving plate.
- Optionally, garnish with thinly sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
- Serve immediately with extra Yakitori sauce on the side for dipping or drizzling over the chicken.
Enjoy your homemade Chicken Yakitori!
