Tandoori Roti Recipe

Sure! Here's a simple recipe for Tandoori Roti, a popular Indian bread:

Ingredients:

- 2 cups whole wheat flour

- 1 teaspoon salt

- 1 tablespoon oil

- Water (as needed)

Instructions:

1. In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Mix them well.

2. Add the oil to the flour mixture and rub it in with your fingers until it resembles coarse crumbs.

3. Gradually add water to the mixture, a little at a time, and knead to form a smooth and soft dough. The amount of water needed may vary, so add it gradually until the dough comes together.

4. Once the dough is formed, cover it with a damp cloth and let it rest for about 15-20 minutes. This allows the gluten to relax and makes it easier to roll out the rotis.

5. Preheat your oven to the highest temperature setting (usually around 500°F/260°C) and place a baking sheet or pizza stone inside to heat up.

6. After the resting time, divide the dough into small lemon-sized balls. Roll each ball between your palms to make it smooth and round.

7. Take one ball of dough and dust it with some flour. Roll it out into a thin, round roti of about 6-8 inches in diameter. You can use a rolling pin and a flat surface to roll out the rotis.

8. Once the roti is rolled out, lightly wet one side with water using your fingers. This will help the roti stick to the baking surface.

9. Carefully place the roti, wet side down, onto the preheated baking sheet or pizza stone in the oven.

10. Bake the roti for about 2-3 minutes or until you see bubbles forming and the top surface starts to lightly brown.

11. At this point, carefully flip the roti using tongs or a spatula and let it cook for another 2 minutes or until it puffs up and gets some charred spots.

12. Remove the roti from the oven and brush it with some ghee (clarified butter) for added flavor and softness.

13. Serve the hot tandoori rotis with your favorite Indian curry or enjoy them as a standalone bread.

Note: If you don't have an oven, you can also cook the rotis on a stovetop using a tawa (griddle) or a heavy-bottomed skillet. Cook them on medium-high heat, flipping them a couple of times until cooked through.

Enjoy your homemade tandoori rotis!
