Here's a recipe for a basic fish fry:
Ingredients:
- 1 pound of fish fillets (such as cod, haddock, or tilapia)
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon of paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon of cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1/2 cup of milk
- 1 egg
- 1 cup of breadcrumbs or cornmeal
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions:
1. Rinse the fish fillets and pat them dry with paper towels. Cut them into manageable portions if they are too large.
2. In a shallow dish, mix together the flour, salt, black pepper, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using).
3.
In another shallow dish, whisk together the milk and egg.
4. Place the breadcrumbs or cornmeal in a third shallow dish.
5. Dip each fish fillet into the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
6. Dip the floured fish into the milk and egg mixture, letting any excess drip off.
7. Coat the fish in the breadcrumbs or cornmeal, pressing it on firmly so it sticks.
8. Heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
9. Fry the fish in the hot oil for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
10. Remove the fish from the pan and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain off any excess oil.
11. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce and side dishes. Enjoy!
